How we're paid

We believe you deserve to know exactly how this site makes money — and why it never changes the price you pay or the order we rank insurers.

The short version

  • Cat Cover Compare is free for you to use.
  • When you buy a policy through a link on our site, we may earn a commission from that insurer.
  • This never changes the price you pay. You get the same quote going direct.
  • Our rankings are algorithmic — insurers cannot pay to appear higher.

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a way websites earn money by referring customers to businesses. When you click a link on our site and buy a policy from an insurer, that insurer pays us a small commission — usually a fixed fee or a percentage of the premium.

This is standard practice across the comparison industry. MoneySuperMarket, CompareTheMarket, GoCompare and virtually every other comparison site work the same way. The difference is we're telling you exactly how it works.

Which insurers we partner with

We have affiliate relationships with some of the insurers listed on our site. These are managed through affiliate networks like Awin, CJ Affiliate, Rakuten Advertising and Impact.

We also list insurers we do not have affiliate deals with — because our goal is to show you the whole market, not just the ones that pay us. If we don't earn commission from an insurer, we simply send you to their direct website with a plain link.

Why our rankings are independent

Our comparison results are generated by a fixed scoring algorithm. The algorithm weighs:

  1. Vet fee limit (40% weight)
  2. Cover type — lifetime scores highest (15% weight)
  3. Customer rating from review aggregators (25% weight)
  4. Monthly price for a standard profile (20% weight)

The algorithm has no knowledge of which insurers we have affiliate deals with. It simply scores each policy on these four factors and sorts the results. No human editor overrides the order, and no insurer can pay to be ranked higher.

Legal compliance

We comply with UK advertising rules set by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). This means:

  • We clearly label affiliate links and sponsored content
  • We never claim to be independent while secretly taking payments for rankings
  • We disclose our commercial relationships upfront
  • We do not make misleading claims about prices or coverage

You will also see a disclosure banner at the top of our comparison results and insurer directory pages reminding you that we may earn commission.

Still have questions?
